LIGHTS UP FOR 6TH GRADE!
As part of the district’s expanded
Community Experiences program, now
serving students at every grade level, Arts
& Culture was selected as the enrichment
focus for 6th grade. In response, we
created the Lights Up for 6th Grade!
series, which offers live, culturally relevant
performances for students and teachers
in Dreyfoos Hall. Ticketing for this series is
facilitated by the school district.
THE PRESIDENT’S OWN UNITED STATES MARINE BAND
October 15 · Thursday at 11am
DREYFOOS HALL
Performance Length: One hour
The Marine Band has delivered a White House experience from
Washington, D.C. to the far-reaching corners of our nation since 1891.
These special concerts have now grown into an experience shared
across generations of Americans as well as a cherished tradition for
families, veterans and music-lovers alike. Concertgoers can expect to
experience a mix of works including traditional band repertoire, Sousa
marches, contemporary compositions, vocal and instrumental solos
and a patriotic salute to the Armed Forces.
JAZZREACH
JEAN-MICHEL AND THE BE-BOP KINGS
October 21 · Wednesday at 11am
DREYFOOS HALL
Performance Length: One hour
Jean-Michel and the Be-Bop Kings, aims to introduce young audiences
to the legacies of these groundbreaking musicians through the
captivating work of Jean-Michel Basquiat and explores what they share
in common and how their respective life experiences and the social
conditions they navigated shaped their worldview, informed their
artistic sensibilities and inspired prolific creative output.
JULIA KEEFE INDIGENOUS BIG BAND*
October 22 · Thursday at 11am

Performance Length: One hour
It is a rarity to see a single Indigenous jazz musician nowadays, let
alone sixteen, on stage. It is even rarer to see female Indigenous jazz
players, yet we have many within the ensemble. The JULIA KEEFE
INDIGENOUS BIG BAND celebrates the diversity and vitality of
Indigenous peoples in jazz: past, present and future. It is the bridge for
people everywhere to see themselves on the bandstand regardless of
race, ethnicity, age, gender or socio-economic status.
