FOTOKIDS RESIDENCY AT
GOVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Starting October 14
Last Spring, Kravis Education, the School District of Palm Beach
County Migrant Education Program, and Gove Elementary
collaborated with Fotokids to engage the Gove Elementary Yearbook
Club students in a series of photography workshops, led by South
Florida professional photographer and educator, Melissa Guerrero.
The students were provided with cameras and instruction about
various techniques, developing their skills as budding photographers.
The program culminated in a campus gallery exhibit that included
representative student photographs and accompanying portraits of the
student photographers. A selection of student work was also displayed
in the Kravis Center student photography gallery. The program will
continue in the fall providing additional Gove Elementary students with
this inspiring and enriching arts engagement opportunity.
JAZZ IN UNEXPECTED PLACES
Opening October 16
This multimedia exhibit explores how jazz shaped the sound, style
and spirit of Palm Beach County during the Civil Rights era and
how this influence continues today. Rare photos by Robert Polillo,
contemporary images by Anthony Bethel, local oral histories from
elders and creative works by young artists invite visitors of all
ages to discover jazz in everyday life. Visitors can participate in a
“Scat Along,” explore fashion, music and protest through jazz, and
contribute our Community Tribute Wall with their own stories that
make jazz a living thread.
